One of Elder Russell M. Nelson’s first visits to Peru, as an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was to the city of Tacna, on the occasion of a regional conference held in the south of the country.

Because of this visit, on August 5 and 6, 1995, the customary Tacna Stake conference was not held. Instead, the leaders announced a multiregional conference that would gather the Saints from several cities. Days later, on August 20, a special conference was held, presided over by President Zuzunaga of the Arequipa Mission.
